I Really Hate Being Sick

Oh, the agonies of a cold.

I truly believe that those who suffer from colds are among the most miserable people on earth. Okay, maybe not as bad as AIDS, cancer, and other terminally-ill patients, but almost. Because not only do we, the cold-inflicted, have to deal with the raw throats, scratchy voices, runny noses, heaving coughs, and various aches, pains, fevers, and fatigue that come along with The Cold, we also have to deal with the guilt knowing we're essentially functional even though we feel like crap. Sports and Games

My fiance Mike is a sports nut. I know nothing about sports. This does not bode well for the partner of a rabid baseball fan, because it's like I'm the Other Woman from March to October (yes, he watches the pre- and post- season). However, despite my apathy for anything involving athletic ability, I try to be involved and to participate when Mike is excited about something reported during a sports highlight. I listen, and sometimes I retain bits of what he tells me. I now know enough about Mike's beloved Oakland A's to tell anyone who might ask that Mark Ellis, the second baseman, is my favorite player and that he should have won the Gold Glove last year. After I say this, I usually pray that nobody asks me anything else about Mark Ellis or questions whether I know what a Gold Glove is. More...
