New Year, Same Old

I wish that writing was like playing a slot machine - you sit down, put in your two cents, and somehow you end up up with a big payoff. For that matter, I wish slot machines worked that way too. But they don't - and I should know, I just spent the weekend in Reno doing my best to buck the system. We actually won quite a bit the first night while playing 3-card and Paigow Poker, but by the end of the trip were back down. Not much, but a little. My close friend Kathy, however, hit the Indiana Jones slot machine jackpot, walking away with over $700 (damn you, Kathy - but thanks for buying dinner that night for us losers). More...

The Christmas Bush

As is tradition with Mike's family, we all trooped up the mountain to get our Christmas trees the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The way it works is, after a Thursday of gluttanny and drunkenness, we recover Friday and Saturday so we can get liquored up with a champagne/bloody mary breakfast at Mike's parents' before trooping off with chainsaws with the goal of cutting down a big hunk of wood.
